Athenry ladies took on Ballaghadereen at the weekend and progressed through to the next round of the Connacht Cup with a 2-0 win.Goals from Jane Trehy & Kate Snowdon scored the goals but keeper Ciara Cunney made some outstanding saves to keep Balla at bay. Centre backs Amy Coffey and Serena Hansberry dealt admirably with anything thrown at them with Ruby Mullen & Caoimhe Brett both coming close to scoring themselves. Well Done girls great performance from the team.
The game finished 2-0, after an excellent display of skill and teamwork from the Athenry girls, putting Athenry through to the next round of the Connacht Cup.

Athenry B 0-1 Tuam Celtic
The B team lads got back to league action again this morning and went down to a disappointing 1 nil defeat to Tuam Celtic. The teams went in at half time all square even though Athenry had created several chances. The second half started similar until a huge stroke of luck saw tuam take the lead from an OG. Athenry Pushed hard but Tuam fought hard and some how managed to stop us scoring.
Best of luck to Tuam for the rest of the season.

Our next game is not until 8th February Vs Bohs away
Huge congratulations to Amelia Doherty (goalkeeper) and Róisín Hannon who both made the U13 Galway Interleague squad.
Wishing them both the best of luck in their season from all their club teammates and coaches in Athenry FC.
We played our 6th league game of the year and first for 2025 against Colga FC today in ideal conditions. Well done to the 23 girls who represented Athenry FC so proudly today. We want to thank Colga FC for their sportsmanship, where we both agreed to play 3 matches instead of 2. This allowed all of the girls from both clubs to get loads of game time, which is what it's all about.
As coaches, we are very happy with how the girls are progressing with their skills and a special thank you to the clubs goalkeeping coaches.
Thank you to the coaches and referees today as managing 3 games is not an easy ask.
U14 Boys Connacht Cup
Athenry FC 4-1 West Coast United
Athenry played West Coast Utd to Moanbaun for the Connacht Cup.
West went 1 up in the first few minutes and this spurred Athenry to come back from this very early set back. Athenry then applied pressure to make it a fantastic comprehensive win with Oisin Shaw, Ryan Donovan, Paraic Fahy Rabbitte, Ruairi McNena all scoring in a performance that was a pleasure to watch. Kudos must also go to Athenry keeper Oran Costello on some wonderful saves during the game. Excellent work lads keep it going.
Captain was Diarmuid Fitzgerald & MOTM was Paraic Fahy Rabbitte.

Connacht Junior Cup Round 2
Castlerea Celtic 6-3 Athenry B
The B team exited the Cup against Castlerea away from home at the weekend. Athenry battled well in a first half that saw the game well balanced at 1-1 at the interval. The home side came out all guns blazing in the second half as they raced into a 4-1 lead, before a late rally by Athenry. This was sparked by a marvellous saved penalty by Athenry's Evan McCrossan who pulled off a double save and goals from Conor Cannon and Alex Park brought it to back to 4-3 to give the maroon visitors hope. However Athenry were reduced to 10 men and this was too much of a hurdle for Athenry as Castlerea scored two more to put the game out of reach. A day to be proud of this team and to say best of luck to Castlerea and to thank them for their hospitality after the game.

U15 Girls Championship
Athenry 3-2 Colemanstown
Last Friday night saw U15 girls Championship side get back into action against a strong and accomplished Colemanstown Utd. Plenty of chances from both sides with keepers king in the first half but it was the second half that really sprung to life as Colemanstown gained first blood to go 1-0 up. Despite Athenry responding well it was Colemanstown who went further ahead with a speculative shot to make it 2-0. Athenry redoubled their efforts, making a formation change and it was left to Nicole Mitchell who scored a quick brace to make it 2 all. With goalie Brynn Feeney fantastic between the sticks to keep Colemanstown out for the rest of the game, it was a Sophie Murray goal that won the game for Athenry with the excellent Nicole Mitchell grabbing the assist. Be in no doubt this was a team win brought about by fantastic team spirit and a never say die attitude to making changes if things needed changing during a game. A great start to 2025, Well Done Girls!

Moyne Villa 1 - 3 Athenry
2025 started brightly on a cold night in Headford for the Athenry Men’s Team! It was going to be a tough assignment against 3rd in the League Moyne Villa, who themselves would go top with a win. Athenry were put under pressure early on, and Moyne Villa would have felt hard done by not to be at least 2 goals up in the first half, Athenry Keeper TJ Forde had lightning quick reactions with his feet to stop a well placed header from Moyne Villa striker, Padraic Cunningham hitting the Athenry net, and TJ was again called into action with another great save shortly after. Athenry continued to work their way up the pitch though, and not long before Half Time, a misplaced kick from the Moyne Villa keeper fell to Adam Duffy, who calmly took the ball down before striking it sweetly into the top corner of the home team’s net from all of 40 yards out. Athenry 1-0 up going into the break. The temperature continued to drop as the second half started with the Athenry back line all working hard to keep out a strong Moyne Villa attack, who started to pile on the pressure.. but halfway through the 2nd Half this led to a quick counter attack from Athenry where Cathal Fahy found himself 1 on 1 with the keeper, and he expertly chipped it over the onrushing goalie to put Athenry 2 ahead. From there, it was game management time but the slippy surface led to a number of fouls resulting in some dangerous free kicks from Moyne Villa, one from Aidan Coyle testing TJ from range with a whipped shot. Aidan finally managed to find his way onto a ball over the top of the Athenry defence, and lifted the ball over TJ’s head to claw a goal back for Moyne Villa, but it was Athenry who would have the final say of the match in the last 10 mins when Ryan Corcoran took on a number of Moyne Villa players, broke though and fired a shot across the Moyne Villa keeper to find the corner of the net. 3-1 to Athenry! It was a great way to start the New Year and pushes Athenry into 3rd in the league. Well done to all the players and management as well as the travelling support!
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL
See you all back safe & sound as the season continues into the brand new year. Here's looking forward to a successful 2025!

Boys U14 - Division 4/5 Cup
Athenry D are through to the next round of the Division 4/5 cup after winning the local derby away to Cregmore/Claregalway. Alex Egan, Leon Engels & James Maher had Athenry 3-0 up, despite the terrible weather conditions, at half time. More goals came courtesy of Ben Duane & Adam O Brien in the second half to seal a 5-0 win. Excellent performance with Man of the Match going to Ben Duane as joint Captains Hugh Cuddy and Scott McVicker marshalled their team across the pitch expertly during the game.

GFA Women’s Premier Cup
Athenry FC 2 -1 Maree/Oranmore
Poor weather saw Athenry involved in a real battle as Athenry goalie Ciara Cunney coped very well with the strong wind that assisted the visitors today. Athenry’s winger Adina Fahey was a revelation with her work rate and captain Leah Crotty played the role exceptionally well in her terrier like performance and POM award to keep the game scoreless at half time. Athenry started the second half well winning and scoring a penalty with Ruby Mullen putting Athenry one nil up. Nina Bodamer also added to the lead with a sublime chip over the Oranmore keeper making it two nil. Oranmore did come back strongly winning their own penalty but Athenry girls reacted well as the game finished 2-1. So Athenry progress to the next round of the Galway Cup. Scorers Ruby Mullen & Nina Bodamer. POTM: Leah Crotty

Athenry win on penalties!

Athenry B 1 - 3 Colga B (AET)
Athenry B's are out of the Lillis Cup as they succumbed to a 3-1 defeat after extra time. Going 1-0 down it was Adam Kelleher who grabbed the equaliser after good work from
Christian Mullen to send the game into extra time. Colga scored to make it 2-1 and Athenry renewed efforts to get back into the game. But it was Colga who scored again to make it 3-1 at the death. Next up is Colga again in the league on the 5th January.

The lads rallied after this set back and stormed to the win making it 4-2 with a Conor Kickey hat trick before half time and then scoring three without reply in the second half. Well Done lads on showing resilience and fortitude in this excellent win.

Girls U12 Division 2/3 cup
Athenry 3-2 Colga
Colga scored early in this game as Athenry waited for two late arrivals and found themselves 2-0 before they settled into the team. Isobel Heffernan got us back into it with a sweet goal and shortly after that Ava Morrissey ran the length of the pitch with a mazy run to equalise before half time with a fantastic goal of her own. With both sides looking towards penalties it was left to Lauren Ryan who scored Athenry's third that sent us into the next round of the cup much to the delight of us all.
Great performances from this team of girls who were all brilliant on the day.
U13 Girls Division 2
Athenry B 4-2 Moyne Villa B

Athenry B 5-3 Oughterard
A win for the lads last night against a good Oughterard side. Jack Maguire scored a brace before Oughterard grabbed a goal but a Ciaran Browne effort made it 3-1 to Athenry. Alex Park made it 4-1 just before half time and added another shortly after half time to make it 5 for the maroon lads. Oughterard rallied to make it 5-3 to to make sure the game was never a foregone conclusion. Well Done on a great game from both sides. Next game is versus Colga B in the Lillis cup on December 15th. FAI U18 Youth Cup
Athenry 2 - 1 Lagan Harps (Donegal)
U18's progress into the next round of the FAI U18 Youth Cup after a superb win over Donegal's Lagan Harps. Corey Walker scored after 5 minutes but the Donegal visitors were level after Athenry were left to rue a few missed opportunities. Athenry goalie Rory Walsh was excellent in goal and made a massive save just on 20 minutes. It was from this that Athenry scored their second after a free flowing move. Walsh from his clearance found Eoin Hannon who continued his run with the ball and his precise lay off saw Ryan Tierney put the ball into the net after a fine team move to put Athenry 2-1 up. Athenry could have had more goals to put the game out of reach but their defence was also called upon in the closing stages of the match and they didn't disappoint in their steadfastness! An excellent close game and we want to thank the Donegal supporters for making the long trip.
U21 Mens Premier
Knocknacarra 1-3 Athenry
Wednesday night (20th Nov) was a very cold evening as Athenry were away to Knocknacarra in Cappagh Park. Daniel Tear, as is his want these days, scored after 20 minutes to get the visitors on their way. Within 10 minutes a captains goal of superb quality saw Molloy dance his way around a defender and goalkeeper to score and grab Athenry's second. Undaunted Knocknacarra grabbed a goal before half time to keep Athenry minds concentrated on the game going into the restart. With snow coming down onto the pitch it was a nervous affair for both teams as the second half progressed. That was until the hour mark when Alex Howard was chopped down in the box to give Daniel Tear the chance to put daylight between the teams which the ice cool Tear duly obliged to make it 3-1. Athenry defended well to see out the game to get full points on the night. A special mention to Daragh Gilhooley, who suffered a bad injury and we wish him well in his recovery.
Goals Tear x2, Molloy x1,

Chois Fharrige 3- 5 Athenry B
Athenry B team travelled to Rosaveal to play Chois Fharrige. Athenry went 1-0 up early doors after a good team move that ended with Jack Maguire finishing. The home side equalised from a corner, but Athenry showed resilience to battle back, as a second Jack Maguire goal made it 2-1 at halftime. Chois Fharrige levelled again soon after the restart to really make a game of it. A fantastic game ensued with both sides going for it asking for no quarter. Athenry edged ahead once again through Alex Park but yet again the home side equalised! An excellent game for those watching it and with 15 minutes left to play Athenry got a deserved penalty which Alex Park converted to make it 4-3 to the visitors. With just 5 minutes left a Kieran Fox effort put the game finally to bed and made the points secure as it ended 5-3. Well Done to both teams on a really excellent game of football and both should be commended for putting on a show for those watching.

Women’s Connacht Cup
Athenry FC 5-4 Yeats FC
Athenry started strong into their first game in the Connacht Cup and were rewarded with a well-worked goal in the first 5 minutes with some excellent passing from Kate Snowdon, Leah Crotty and POTM Jane Trehy who got the beautiful finish to put the girls a goal up. Not long after, some strong teamwork allowed Adina Fahey to neatly slot it in to the back of the net. Yeats FC responded well, scoring two goals to get themselves back in the game. Another brilliant strike from Adina Fahey, followed by a long range goal from Yeats FC made the game 3-3 coming in to half time.
With it all to play for in the second half, Athenry came out the stronger of the two sides and Kate Snowdon’s skill allowed her to put the girls a goal up. Amy Coffey followed up with an exquisite long range strike that found the top left corner, leaving spectators in awe. A flurry of yellow cards led to Athenry going a player down for the last 10 minutes. Yeats took advantage of this and scored, leaving Athenry to try and hold their lead with one goal between the two sides. Any attacks from the away side were hoovered up by Athenry centre backs Shauna Donohue and Nicole Madden, who showed their strength and class up until the final minute. The game ended 5-4, putting the girls through to the next round of the Connacht Cup.

Athenry 1-1 Mervue
A foggy Wednesday night under the lights saw Athenry get off to a bright start with Daniel Tear going close, Athenry spurned several chances to take the lead but were caught with a sucker punch on 25 minutes from a speculative long shot.
Athenry eventually got a deserved equaliser when the ever dangerous Molloy fired into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.
Half time 1-1.
Second half saw Athenry miss a few half chances but it was Mervue who had the best chance of the half with a one on one, saved by Cormac Mcfadden. Wiith 5 minutes to go, Athenry broke away and Darra Hislop fired in a powerful drive that hit the inside of the post and bounced to safety. A few headers from consecutive corners saw Athenry nearly get the winner but it ended honours even. Goal - Adam Molloy, MOM - Darra Hislop

Athenry FC 7-3 Corrib Celtic
Raheen pitch saw Athenry take on Corrib Celtic in the blustery wind. Corrib Celtic got off to a great start scoring in the first 15 minutes. Athenry equalised through Aisling to bring parity between the teams just before Lily-Mae scored a brace herself to make it 3-1 Athenry at the break. Athenry brought on subs and soon found themselves 5-1 up with Ciara Doyle helping herself to a couple of goals herself. Corrib Celtic responded to make it 5-2, but Lily-Mae completed her hat-trick to put the girls in maroon 6-2 up. With a further goal from Ailbhe Mannion and Corrib the game ended 7-3. Player stand outs are probably too many to mention but Katie Murphy in goal kept us ahead at crucial times of the match with some fabulous saves. Defensively Amira was very good and in midfield Aisling was strong and up front Lily-May Feeney grabbed the POTM award for her outstanding hat trick in what really was a great team performance from all.
Thanks to Corrib Celtic for a well-fought and entertaining match.
U16 Connaught Cup
Westport Utd 2-4 Athenry
U16 Boys are through to the next round of the Connaught Cup after a good win in testing conditions. Westport were the hosts at their excellent home ground. Josh Doggett got the ball rolling and scored within a minute of the kick off. Then it was 2-0 after 20 minutes through an Alan Hallinan audacious lob of the Westport keeper. The home side made it 2-1 before Robert Eastwood made it 3-1 to Athenry. Westport responded again (3-2), in what was turning out to be a great game despite the very wet weather. But Athenry showed mettle and didn't buckle and it was Robert Eastwood who scored to make it 4 2. A fantastic run by Alan Hallinan who grabbed the assist after holding off challenge after challenge in his determination to supply the ball to Robert.
Great respect to Westport United FC for the highly competitive game and for their hospitality and post game refreshments.
Western Hygiene Division 1
Athenry B 3-1 St Patricks
A good 3 points in Moanbaun on Friday evening, but the lads were made to work hard to get them by a resilient St Patricks side.
Athenry had most of the early play, but it was St. Patricks that struck first. A Jack Maguire goal shortly after that put the sides level, and it stayed that way until half time. Athenry created plenty of chances but didn't break the deadlock until the 80th minute when Christian Mullen finished from close range and a few minutes later, Alex Park made it 3 with a good finish.
Next game is Sunday 3rd away to Colga B
Thanks to our sponsors Belville Construction & Declan Rooney Menswear

Athenry 2-0 Ballinasloe Town
On to the next round for Athenry but they had to work hard for the win. Despite creating a host of chances, it wasn't until the 55th minute before the lead was taken via a finish inside the box from Pedro Lucas Nascimento. Ballinasloe had their own chances to equalise but 8 mins from time a cross from Luke Murtagh was finished by Alan Hallinan to conclude the scoring. Got there in the end, well done to the boys.
Congratulations to Cillian Walsh and Maks Lukaszewski, from Athenry FC, who have been selected to represent Galway Town at U13 for the 24/25 season. Well done to the 2 boys and their club coaches.

Athenry's Maroon team beat Colemanstown to progress through to the 2nd round of the SFAI Cup. Èalga Monaghan made sure the girls had a 1-0 lead going into the break. Kayla Ryan scored the second to make it 2-0 into the second half before Colemanstown grabbed a consolation. Athenry continued to make chances as Colemanstown searched for an equaliser themselves before the ref blew the final whistle. Good all round team performance from the girls who showed fantastic work ethic. These goals were as much the result of good team work as individual brilliance. Well deserved. Well Done.

Athenry 1 - 0 Castlebar Celtic

NEWS - ATHENRY WON 4-3!
Colemanstown UTD 4-8 Athenry FC
Athenry U15 Girls Championship side were away to Colmanstown Utd last Sunday 6th October and what a game it was! Jenna Brady started the ball rolling after 12 minutes with a powerful finish. Shortly after Nicole Mitchell scored Athenry's second as it looked like Athenry's day early doors. But Colmanstown came back strongly and determined to get back into the game they should be commended, as they scored three goals on the trot to leave Athenry looking for their own response, and respond they did. Mia Greaney scored to make it 3-3 before half time as the awaiting supporters were watching a treat of a match.
Game on and once again Athenry started brightly as Eve Ledwith scored two goals to make it 5-3 to Athenry and then Mia scored her second and suddenly it was 6-3. But this score line didn't last long as once again Athenry pressed on as Sophie Murray followed this with two quick fire goals of her own in a couple of minutes. With Amy Rose and Aebha Engles working like terriers in the middle of the park Colmanstown found chances limited.
Athenry's defence of Rachel, Rebecca, Jenna, Aisling K, and team captain Sofija did trojan work as goalkeeper Brynn Feeney stepped up to the plate in the second half conceding 1 goal! Subs Lauren and Erin came onto the field to shore up the team and this they did as their extra running made a massive difference to a tiring team.
Athenry team : Brynn, Aisling K, Rebecca, Jenna, Rachel, Sofija(c), Aebha, Eve, Sophie, Mia, Nicole, Lauren, Erin, Amy Rose.
Thank you to all our travelling supporters

Athenry went 5-0 up with further goals from Kate Snowdon, Adina Fahey, Ruby Mullen and Nina Bodamer. Corrib Celtic did grab a consolation goal near the end but Athenry with goalie Ciara Cunney in good form saw out the game without any further goals.
Athenry Senior B won this away day derby game in testing circumstances as the good auld Irish weather put paid to slick football. A massive 3 points on the day was great reward on a a difficult day to play football. Alex Park scored another goal for Athenry before the home side equalised on the hour, but once again Alex rose to the challenge scoring another to make it 2-1 before a fine Christian Mullen strike finished the game. Athenry's defence held firm to keep out any more goals and all credit to them in the conditions.
Thanks as always to our sponsors.

Athenry 5-0 Ballinasloe Town
A comfortable win for Athenry despite only leading 1-0 at half time as Alan opened the scoring in the first period. Athenry upped their game second half as James x2, Luke & Pedro all added to the tally. Excellent and efficient performance from all today.
Recognition is always great for our club and to get three players in the Galway FA Oscar Traynor Cup squad that beat Roscommon 2-0 on Sunday was an excellent pay back for our first team management. Congratulations on your selection to Athenry first team players TJ Forde, Adam Duffy and Gary O'Connell.
U21 Men Premier (Wed Oct 2nd)
Athenry 3 Colga 2
Athenry had goalie Cormac McFadden to thank for keeping Colga out in the first half with some exceptional 'net minding' as the visitors threatened to edge in front. Shortly before the interval, it was Daniel Tear whom deftly passed on a great chance for Athenry captain Adam Molloy to break the deadlock making it 1 nil to Athenry. Even though ahead by only the slimmest of margins, a formation change was deemed necessary into the second half. This saw Athenry begin to exert their influence with Darragh Fahy beginning to put his mark on the game. After the restart it was goal provider turn predator Daniel Tear double the lead with another deftness of skill 'turning on a sixpence' and finishing expertly to make it 2-0 to Athenry. With Athenry in control it was another assist from Tear to Ciaran Brown who finished an unstoppable shot into the top angle of the net. In fairness to Colga they came back strongly to claw back a goal, then panic stations for the home side, as they brought it back to 3-2. Athenry's defence were called upon to save the three points. With time ticking down it was this defence who stepped up to close down the game to make the final score Athenry 3 Colga 2. A good game of football with plenty stand outs from goalie to up front. The defence of David Kilbane, Darra Hislop, Jason Coffey and Dion Belton all stepped up to the fore when it mattered and Athenry reacted as a team to the concession of the two Colga goals. The way a team reacts to situations during a game can often shape a season and this teams reaction will stand them in good stead for the season ahead.
Goals- Adam Molloy, Daniel Tear, Ciaran Brown. Assists Tear x 2, Cygan

Merlin Woods 1-3 Athenry
Bad weather conditions away to Merlin Woods saw Athenry U16's take an early lead through Robert Eastwood in this Division 1 game. Shortly afterwards Athenry, playing against a storm force wind, went 2-0 up as Caelan Keavney Burke scored an opportunist goal. To their credit Merlin pulled a goal back with a penalty just before half time. Second half saw no favours from the conditions as both sides tried to play through the wind & rain. Athenry emerged victorious though with just over 5 minutes left to play as Pedro Nascimento scored inside the box to record Athenry's first win of the season to great celebration.
Boys U14 Coley Smith Premier League
Athenry FC 2 - 1 Corofin Utd.
A hard fought win for Athenry as the home side went 1 up through Jay Furey, a lead that was held onto til the half time break.
Corofin equalised through a corner as Corofin headed an equaliser to set up a grand stand finish. With time running down it was Athenry who scored the winner as James Byrne caused mayhem in the Corofin defence to expertly finish into the net. Well Done great game of football for those watching.

U15 Girls Championship
Athenry 3 - 4 Corrib Celtic
The U15 Girls had a great game of football versus Corrib Celtic in their Championship league match on Sunday 22nd September on the Athenry astro. A very tight affair with end to end attacking from both sides! Athenry goals came from Mia Greaney, Eve Ledwith & Aebha Engels in this narrow but highly entertaining loss. Both sides should be commended for their never give up attitude and the football fayre that was served up on the day as an excellent example and display for girls football.
FAI U17 Boys Cup R1
Athenry 2-1 Mervue Utd
A winner in the closing stages of this U17 FAI Cup First Rd saw Athenry secure a place in the next round of the FAI Cup. Despite Athenry missing a penalty and going a goal down to Mervue, Daniel Tuohy grabbed the equaliser to make it all square at half time 1-1. Second half saw no more goals
and so into extra time. As penalties beckoned, Conor Dillon found Shay O'Driscoll with an exquisite pass, whose deft first touch saw him finish a great move from Athenry and send the watching crowd into delirium. WOW what a game!

U12 Connacht Cup vs. Ballina Town
Ballina Town were the visitors in a fantastic cup match. Early goals helped Athenry to settle and with an excellent defence Maureen, Emma, Eleanor, and Niamh were steadfast in resisting Ballina's forwards. Goals from Sophie C, Ella, Emily, Ruby, Ines, and our captain for the day, Isla, showed how good they all are. Sophie D, Amy, and Sarah were also denied from getting on the scoresheet by some superb goalkeeping from Ballina. Winger Eva added pace and assists from the wing as Athenry goalie
Roisín stepped up when needed. Team performance on the day was exceptional and we look forward to our next game.
U14 Girls Connacht Cup.
Athenry had a good win against Bernard’s with some top class finishing from our strikers. Teamwork was the order of the day but the girls never stopped running and pushing all day to the final whistle. Our 'White' team played a very strong Coolaney Utd from Sligo later on. A very accomplished side who our girls will have learnt a lot from after this game. They never gave up and we look forward to our league and more competitive matches to come. A massive Thank You to Sharon & Co for the fantastic food afterwards, really, really appreciated.
FAI Youth Cup U18 Boys
Tuam Celtic 1 - 3 Athenry
The U18 Boys beat Tuam Celtic in their FAI Youth cup game away to Tuam. Cory Walker scored from a corner and it was 2-0 on 35 minutes when Cory Walker scored again. Tuam grabbed a goal back to make it 2-1 with half an hour left to give hope to the home side. But it was Athenry who struck next as they scored their 3rd goal through an Ethan Mitchell close range effort to finish the game and send Athenry through to the next round.

Western Hygiene Supplies Premier
Athenry 5 - 4 Renmore
A very wet Moanbaun saw a humdinger of a game involving no less than 9 goals. Within 30 minutes Athenry had raced into a 4 nil lead courtesy of goals from Ryan Corcoran (x2), Adam Molloy and Adam Duffy. Renmore came back very strongly to grab 4 goals of their own in terrible weather conditions with their equaliser being scored with literally minutes left. With a disappointing draw looking likely it was left to Morgan Leggett to find the winner in the dying seconds to give Athenry victory as they held until the final whistle. Great game!
U21 Men's Premier
Salthill Devon v Athenry
Athenry won away as Senan Treacy got the ball rolling for Athenry. Ciaran Brown added another to make it 2-0 to Athenry and Daniel Tear completed the first half scoring from the edge of the box. Further goals from Cory Walker, Ciaran Brown (again), Captain Molloy, Howard & Flores added more icing to an already fantastic cake!
MOM - Ciaran Brown
FAI CUP U17 Boys
Salthill Devon 1 - 2 Athenry (AET)
The U17's saw themselves up against Salthill Devon away in the preliminary round of the FAI Cup. With it 0-0 at half time it was Salthill who took the lead in the second half but on 50 minutes Athenry struck back. A Daniel Touhy header from a corner made the game end 1-1 after the refs whistle and the game entered extra time. With goalie Oran Shaughnessy in superb form it was left to Ethan Mitchell to win the game as he calmly slotted home the winner with seconds left to lead an exhausted Athenry team through to the next round.
Western Hygiene Supplies Premier
Galway Hibs 2-2 Athenry
Athenry left Bohemore this weekend with a draw and 2 points left behind, having gone deep into injury time 2-1 ahead and looking certain of the win. But when the referee awarded a penalty for handball, Hibs slotted home to grab a well earned draw.
It was Hibs who took the lead after 20 mins with a well taken goal from a ball that dropped kindly into he box. 10 mins later, a superb Dan Cunningham cross was headed home by Ronan Jennings. Into the 2nd half and Athenry started to dominate, helped by the introduction of youth and fresh legs from the bench. And it was one of the subs, Ethan Mitchell, who delivered the lead for Athenry, with a tidy assist from the ever-busy Adam Duffy. 2-1 Athenry led and pushed for a 3rd, but it wasn't to be. Injury time, penalty, 2-2 at full time. Lots of positives for the season ahead!
Western Hygiene Supplies Division 1
Athenry 3-1 Galway Bohs
The Junior B team lads had a good 3-1 win on Friday night against a very tough Galway Bohs team, at home on the Moonbaun Astro. 2 goals in the first and 1 in the second half put the lads 3-0 up and well in control.
Bohs came back hard and kept pushing and were rewarded with a goal with about 5 minutes left on the clock. A big 3 points.
Goals scorers were Alex Park x 2 & Jack Maguire x 1. Next game is Sunday 15th September away to Tuam at 11am.

O35 Non Junior div 1 Semi Final
Athenry 3-2 Knocknacarra
WOW What a semi final win for Athenry Over 35's. Alan Lynch put the maroon lads 1 up, but Knocknacarra equalised to level before half time and indeed they went 2-1 up with 15 minutes remaining in the second half. This time it was Athenry's turn to come roaring back as they pushed for the equaliser. Mark Cullinane made it 2-2 with less than 10 minutes to go and then Daryn Tully was brought down for a penalty. Gary Coffey stepped up to calmly slot home to make it 3-2 to the home side as Athenry went on to win. Eamonn Deacy Park beckons as they now face St.Bernards in the final. All support appreciated.
